Will and Flora to go ‘WILD’ at Express Eventing Series Opener!!! - 29 October 2012
Two of the UK’s top young event riders have been named as the ‘wild card’ entries
for the first round of the Express Eventing Series 2012-13 which takes place on
Saturday 17th November 2012 as part of HorseWorld Live! at London’s ExCel Arena.
Oxfordshire based Flora Harris won the competition in 2010 at Stoneleigh Park and rode
in the 2011 Series Final at HOYS.
Flora is a former Team GBR Young Rider who has enjoyed continued success including
in 2010 a fifth place finish at Barocca D’Alva CIC ***, 6th and best Under 25 rider at Chatsworth CIC 3***, and overall 4th and runner up in the Under 25’s National Championship at Bramham CCI 3***
in the same year.
She competed in her first CCI 4**** at Badminton in 2011, going clear cross country.
Commenting today, Flora said ‘’Express Eventing has just been a marvellous opportunity for me. It has meant that I can compete alongside some of the top names in the sport and has just made me more determined to succeed at the very highest level.’’
Will Murray is based in Newcastle and enjoyed a highly successful season in 2011, which has included finishing seventh at Bramham and ninth at Blair CCI 3*** CCIU25 3***
He is funded by Horse Scotland, competes regularly at advanced level and finished eighth in the 2011 Express Eventing Series Final.
Will added ‘’I had such a fantastic time during the 2011 Series when I qualified for the Final as the top placed Young Rider. It is just wonderful to be invited to take part again at a time when the competition is really developing in such a positive way and attracting a new audience.’’
The Express Eventing Series 2012-13 will see seven Teams lead by some of the top names from eventing, including Mark Todd, Oliver Townend, Sam Griffiths, Lucinda Fredericks, Harry Meade, Fiona Hobby and Matthew Wright. Athletes will accumulate points as individuals which will also contribute to their Team Score. Four rounds of competition will be held at high profile venues including the CLA Game Fair at Ragley Hall, Worcestershire and a Series Final which in the Autumn of 2013.
The ‘wildcard’ entries will ride as individuals. The athlete with the best overall score in the Series, will become a Team Principal for the 2013-14 Series.
‘’It was really important for us that we not only delivered the top names in the sport of eventing, but we also gave an opportunity to the many young riders who have supported the Series unstintingly during its continuing evolution’’ commented Jill Gratton-Fisher, Director and General Manager of Tricorn Events. She added, ‘’this is something we will continue to do at each of the rounds of the Series and we fully expect to see some of them become future Team Principals.’’
